Gate valves and globe valves are all actuated valves. The gate valve is used to open and close the main pipe. Globe valve is mainly used for opening and closing of small-diameter pipes (branch pipes) or pipe ends and flow adjustment.
The gate valve is usually suitable for keeping the gate fully open or fully closed. Gate valves are not suitable for regulating or throttling applications. For high-speed flowing media, the shutter can cause the shutter to vibrate when it is partially opened. Vibration may damage the sealing surfaces of the gate and seat. Throttling will subject the sluice to erosion by the medium.
According to the form of the sealing element, the gate valve is often divided into several different types, such as: wedge gate valve, parallel gate valve, parallel double gate valve, wedge double gate and so on. The most common forms are wedge gate valves and parallel gate valves. The purpose of these valves is to allow the medium to flow in one direction only. Normally, such valves work automatically. The valve flap opens under the pressure of the fluid flowing in one direction. When the fluid flows in the opposite direction, the fluid pressure and the self-reclosing valve disc act on the valve seat to cut off the flow.
The stem axis of the globe valve is perpendicular to the seat sealing surface. The stroke of the valve stem to open or close is relatively short. It has a very reliable shut-off action, which makes this valve very suitable as a medium for shut-off or adjustment and throttling.
Once the valve flap is open, there is no contact between the valve seat and the sealing surface of the valve flap. Therefore, the wear of the sealing surface machinery is small. Since the valve seat and disc of most globe valves are relatively easy to repair, we do not need to remove the entire valve from the pipeline when replacing the sealing element, which is very suitable for the case where the valve and pipeline are welded into one body. When the medium passes through the valve, the flow direction changes, so the flow resistance of the globe valve is higher than other valves.
